"I suffer from a long term illness that meant that I thought I'd never be able to go back into employment.
I knew my only route to earn was self employment; long term illnesses and disabilities in the work place is unfortunately still discriminated against and I have always ended up having to leave due to work places not being able to cater to the requirements I need.
I knew doing beauty was what i really wanted to do, but I could never afford private courses and couldn't commit to full time education due to my illness.
This is a common problem with people I know who suffer from long term illnesses and disabilities who feel the rest of their life will be spent out of employment. This has added to my illness, making me depressed knowing I will have to rely on benefits and the possibility of never having a career.
When I found out that this course was running, I couldn't believe my luck!
This course has not only given me a purpose, but it has helped some of the symptoms of my illness.
For the first time in 15 months I was able to leave the house by myself.
I have been able to go to a class and last a six-hour day (four times!) which I thought would have never been possible before I took this course .
I am so excited for what the future holds and the fact I am going to be able to help provide for my family and build a career.
With jobs being harder to find,self employment gives people the means to provide on their own terms and give people the possibility of a career when we thought we'd never have one.
I hope many more people have the chance to go through courses like this and to have an opportunity like this.
The teachers at BC Beauty gave me more than just qualifications...they have given me so much confidence and the inspiration to start my own business, and I can finally see myself going somewhere.
